# Trailer music: built for the two-minute build
Trailer music is written backwards from its climax. Everything in an epic trailer track serves one moment: the point where the picture cuts hard and the sound has to arrive with it. That makes it the most structurally deliberate genre in any library — and the easiest to edit, because the arc is already there.
What defines the genre?
A quiet, tense opening. A rising middle section built from pulses, risers and percussion. Then the hit: full orchestra, braams, taiko drums, choir and sound design layered into a wall of sound. Modern trailer music is almost always hybrid — real orchestral recordings combined with synthesizers and heavy processing.
The three-act structure
- Act one: sparse, atmospheric, often a single motif
- Act two: the build — rhythm enters, tension accumulates
- Act three: full impact, then a controlled drop to the logo
Most tracks are delivered in exactly this shape, which means a trailer cut and the music can be locked together in minutes rather than hours.
Licensing trailer music
Trailer tracks belong in film and game trailers, teasers and promos, event openers, sports highlight reels, launch films and anything that needs to feel larger than life. Sound design elements — braams, risers, impacts, whooshes — are available separately in the sound design category.
All trailer music at Ashfallmusic is royalty free and fully cleared: one licence, worldwide, in perpetuity, with no fees to any collecting society. Stems let you pull the percussion out under a voice-over and bring it back for the final hit.
