# Sound design: the elements between the music
Sound design elements are not tracks — they are building blocks. Braams, risers, impacts, whooshes, reverses and drums-only stems give an editor the means to shape tension exactly where the picture needs it, independently of any musical arrangement.
What is in the category?
- Braams: the low, distorted brass hit that defines modern trailers
- Risers: rising tension, usually two to eight seconds, ending on a cut
- Impacts and hits: the moment of arrival, often layered with sub bass
- Whooshes and transitions: movement between shots or scenes
- Reverses: the pull into a cut, played backwards
- Drums only: percussion stems without any melodic content
How they are used
Sound design sits on top of music or entirely replaces it. A title sequence often needs nothing more than three risers and two impacts placed against the cut. In a trailer, these elements bridge the gaps between musical sections and make the transitions feel intentional rather than edited.
Licensing sound design
These elements belong in trailers and teasers, title sequences and motion graphics, advertising, gaming, sports highlight reels and event openers. Because they are short and dry, they layer easily with any music track without muddying the mix.
Every sound design element at Ashfallmusic is royalty free and cleared worldwide — licensed once, no recurring fees to any collecting society.
